First Care is a family medical center like no other. We really enjoy what we do, where we do it, and who we are doing it with! Government and insurance industry auditors who spend a day in our office have commented on more than one occasion that it seems we really do have fun.
Not only will you always be greeted with a reassuring smile when you visit or call us, we promise to make the 'business' of healthcare less like a business and more like visiting with friends.
At First Care, we love providing quality medical care with a loving touch. Our entire staff is dedicated to providing family healthcare without the hassle and promoting good health and goodwill among our patients. We accept new patients, most major insurance coverage, and MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express.

First Care opened on January 7, 1985. Dr. Stephen Izard opened First Care based on his belief that medical care should be delivered in a loving, caring environment and that the highest standards of medical care can be delivered only in that kind of environment.
Dr. Izards earlier experience in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine helped him finely tune his medical diagnostic and therapeutic abilities as well as his bedside manner. Unfortunately, those experiences had not allowed him to develop long-term relationships with his patients. It was out of this personal frustration that First Care was founded.
Several of the first patients at First Care were adolescents. It has been a real joy for our staff to watch these young patients grow and mature. Several are now doctors, nurses, lawyers and teachers, and many others are engaged in a variety of other productive vocations. We are now caring for the health of the children of many of the adolescents we first saw when we opened our practice in 1985. Today, when First Care needs to refer a patient to a pediatric neurologist, we have one who has been a patient of First Care since she was 14 years old!

Every patient seen at First Care is called by the nursing staff within 48 hours of their visit. We do this because we believe it is very important to establish that a patients therapy is working, that the patient improving, and that no new problems have arisen. We also want to be of assistance if the patient has additional needs. These calls are always appreciated and we are frequently thanked for caring enough to make them. But, in Dr. Izards opinion, it would be totally unacceptable to treat a patient and never follow up to ascertain the effectiveness of their treatment. This policy helps us show our genuine concern for our patients but is also very useful as a learning tool for our staff in assessing the effectiveness of their prescribed treatments.
Little things matter at First Care. A smile, a touch, an inquiry about family, a prompt response to a patient inquiry ... all may seem like small things, but these 'small things' are important to our staff and our patients.
Dr. Izard frequently says in staff meetings, If we take care of the small things, the big things will take care of themselves. He means if we show a sincere concern for our patients and give them the high quality of medical care they deserve, then we do not have to worry about the more mundane side of a medical practice such as economic survival.
Our goal in creating this website was to streamline as many aspects of our practice as possible, except one ... caring for the patient. For example, this site helps us insure that our nurses do not end up spending as much time with paperwork as with patients. It also provides a convenient, one-stop resource for our patients who are seeking additional healthcare related information.
If you have ideas on how we can make this site even more helpful to you, let us know. We always appreciate your feedback.
We welcome new patients at First Care. Whether you're in great health and looking for a primary care physician, or feeling a bit 'under the weather' at the moment, we know there are two things you do not want ... waiting forever in a doctor's office lobby, and red tape. We also think you should feel excited about visiting a new doctor, not apprehensive.
